Self Portraits with a ziplock bag

Getting in the frame for The Luminance Project and trying something different with a ziplock bag around the lens for a little creative flare. Getting in the frame isn’t easy, as I prefer to be on the other side of the camera, but doing self-portraits provides so much grown for me as an artist. A part of me feels a twinge of narcissism doing them, but they give me a greater appreciation for the subjects I photograph.  It allows me to relate to how uncomfortable some people are in front of the camera.  Also, there’s something to be said for having a willing subject who’s willing to take as much time as needed to create something cool.

“Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen.” – Brene Brown

The quote for this theme couldn’t have been more appropriate either.  I’ve been reading a lot of Brene Brown books lately and listening to podcasts where she is a guest. I’ve learned that we all need to live somewhat uncomfortable lives, making ourselves vulnerable in different ways in order to learn, grow and appreciate what is in front of us. No one ever experiences personal growth from staying in a comfort zone and this can be applied to so many different situations in life from losing weight to going back to school or even just parenting and being a better partner.
